Zimbabwe has recorded a total maize harvest of 2 716 045 tonnes in the 2025/26 agricultural season, marking a significant milestone in national grain production and strengthening the country's food security outlook.

The bumper harvest comes as the harvesting campaign reaches 96 percent completion, with farmers having harvested maize from 1 818 148 hectares across the country's major production zones.

The output represents a major recovery from previous drought-affected seasons and reflects improved agricultural productivity supported by Government input programmes, favourable weather conditions and enhanced extension services.

According to latest figures from the Agricultural and Rural Development Advisory Services (ARDAS), Mashonaland West Province emerged as the top producer with 1 145 878 tonnes, followed by Mashonaland Central with 552 695 tonnes.

Other provinces contributed as follows: Manicaland (239 730 tonnes), Mashonaland East (225 921 tonnes), Midlands (180 407 tonnes), Masvingo (176 389 tonnes), Matabeleland North (111 437 tonnes), and Matabeleland South (83 587 tonnes).

The strong output has improved grain availability at both household and national level, with expectations that surplus stocks will support strategic grain reserves and reduce import dependency.

Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Management Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri said the results demonstrate the impact of ongoing efforts to strengthen climate resilience and boost agricultural productivity across the country.

He said sustained investment in inputs, irrigation support and extension services has been central to the improved performance of the sector.
