Macheso gifted new Fortuner after accident
Sungura music legend Alick Macheso has been gifted a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner and cash support following a recent road traffic accident that sparked widespread concern among fans and speculation on social media.

Businessman Wicknell Chivhayo announced the gesture, saying it was intended to support the veteran musician after reports surrounding the accident and the vehicle involved circulated online.

According to Chivhayo, Macheso was involved in a minor road accident last Sunday but escaped without sustaining any injuries.

Initial reports on social media claimed that a luxury vehicle previously associated with the musician had been involved in the accident. However, those claims were later dismissed after it emerged that Macheso had been travelling in an older vehicle at the time.

Following the incident, Chivhayo said he had decided to present the celebrated musician with a fully paid-for 2026 Toyota Fortuner, which has been registered in Macheso's name.

He also announced that additional cash support would be provided to assist with medical check-ups following the accident.

The businessman said the gesture was aimed at ensuring the musician continued travelling safely while recognising his immense contribution to Zimbabwe's music industry.

In addition to supporting Macheso, Chivhayo said members of the musician's support team would also benefit from the donation.

Macheso's manager is expected to receive a smaller vehicle together with fuel assistance as part of the package.

Macheso, one of Zimbabwe's most celebrated musicians and a leading figure in the sungura genre, has enjoyed a career spanning several decades and remains one of the country's most influential performers.

The award-winning artist is expected to collect the new vehicle in Harare in the coming days.
