Five killed in Harare-Nyamapanda road crash

Five people were killed and nine others injured after two Isuzu D-Max vehicles were involved in a head-on collision along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road on Monday afternoon, police have confirmed.
The fatal accident occurred at around 2:40pm at the 101-kilometre peg, according to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
"The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on July 27, 2026, at around 2:40pm at the 101-kilometre peg along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road," Commissioner Nyathi said.
He said one of the vehicles was carrying a single passenger, while the other had 14 passengers on board when the collision occurred.
"Five people were killed, while nine others sustained injuries when an Isuzu D-Max with one passenger on board was involved in a head-on collision with another Isuzu D-Max with 14 passengers on board," he said.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police have not disclosed the cause of the crash, and investigations are underway.
The tragedy came just hours after another fatal road accident claimed three lives along the Gweru–Zvishavane Road.
That accident occurred at around 9:00am at the 80-kilometre peg, where a Shacman truck collided with an AD Van, resulting in three fatalities.
The two crashes add to Zimbabwe's growing road death toll and have renewed concerns over road safety, with authorities continuing to urge motorists to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations to help reduce fatal accidents.
