Woman abandons injured husband, 4 children, after social media posts

A 30-year-old Mount Pleasant woman has allegedly abandoned her injured husband and four children after social media posts involving an unidentified Chinese man triggered a backlash.

Fungisai Kamudyariwa is accused of leaving the family home after videos and posts involving the foreign man attracted widespread criticism.

Her husband, Pascal Mhonda, 35, said he returned from hospital treatment to find his wife had packed her belongings and left, leaving their four children, aged four, six, nine and 12, behind.

Kamudyariwa later confirmed that she had left, but denied that she was involved in an illicit relationship with the Chinese man.

She said the decision was prompted by the criticism she received after the videos went viral, insisting that the content had been intended as "fun".

"I left my husband and children because of some negative comments I got after my videos with the Chinese man went viral," she said.

Kamudyariwa also dismissed speculation that the man was her lover, saying he was too old to be in a relationship with her.

"The Chinese man is too old to be my lover and people that included relatives of my husband said a lot against me," she said.

She claimed she also feared for her safety because of her husband's silence following the controversy.

"I suspected that my husband would attack me during sleep since he was silent about it," she said.

Kamudyariwa said her husband's injury was not the reason she left, although she referred to his condition while explaining the strain within their relationship.

"My husband got injured and suffered a fracture on his thigh that I do not think bedroom life will work again. It is not the reason for leaving my family but the words against me were too damaging that I could not withstand," she said.

She also questioned how details of the matter had reached the media.

Meanwhile, Mhonda said he was injured while moving an industrial generator at work when the machine fell on his leg.

He was treated at hospital but said he had not fully recovered and continued to experience pain.

"My wife left me and the children at a time when I needed comfort and assistance," Mhonda said.

He said he subsequently took the children to his mother in the rural areas while he continued recovering.

Mhonda accused his wife of becoming involved with the visiting Chinese man and said the relationship had been openly displayed on social media.

"My wife was lured by a visiting Chinese man and got obsessed with him within a short period to the extent of celebrating their illicit affair on social media," he alleged.

He said his employer had covered his medical expenses, but he had since returned to work despite continuing to experience pain.

"I am yet to recover. I am in pain, I need help," he said, becoming emotional.

Mhonda also expressed regret that he had not secured birth certificates for the children while his wife was still living at home.

The allegations have generated debate on social media, with the circumstances surrounding the family's separation drawing widespread attention.

The claims made by both parties could not independently be verified.
