Chivi North legislator Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa has lost his 14-year-old daughter, Praise Tariro Mukungunugwa, following a long battle with a kidney ailment.

Praise died on Sunday morning after her condition reportedly deteriorated while she was attending a church conference in the Bushmead area, on the outskirts of Masvingo City along Nemamwa Road.

She was taken to Noraz Surgical Clinic, where she was pronounced dead at around 8am.

Family members said Praise had been battling the kidney condition for some time, but her health deteriorated suddenly while she was at the church gathering.

Mourners are gathered at 25 Richards Street in Rhodene, Masvingo, with the teenager expected to be buried at her father's homestead in Huruva Village, under Chief Madamombe in Chivi, on Tuesday.

Her aunt, Chiedza Huruva, described the death as devastating, saying she had spoken to Praise only a day earlier.

"Yesterday when I visited the camp meeting venue I talked to her and we exchanged pleasantries before she took me halfway as I left the place. I am so devastated by this loss of a young and promising life. It will take me time to really believe what has fallen upon us," she said.

Another family member, Kudakwashe Dzoro, recalled sharing a light-hearted moment with Praise at the church gathering the previous day.

"I gave her some sweets yesterday while at the camp meeting, but she came back three times demanding that I bring her more. I am in shock right now, it's unbelievable. We just look up to the Lord for comfort and guidance," Dzoro said.

Praise is survived by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Her death has left the Huruva family and the wider community mourning the loss of a young life described by relatives as promising and full of potential.
