Zimbabweans arrested over Maun robbery

Botswana Police have arrested three suspects, including two Zimbabwean nationals, in connection with a robbery in Maun in which three businessmen were allegedly robbed of more than P375,000 in cash and property worth over P80,000.
The Botswana Police Service (BPS) said the suspects were arrested following sustained intelligence gathering and investigations into the June 5 robbery.
The suspects have been identified as Donald Sibanda, 42, and Lyghton Nembaware, 39, both Zimbabwean nationals, and Bonnie Secha, 42, a Motswana from Maun.
Sibanda and Nembaware were arrested on August 19, while Secha was arrested on August 22.
"During the incident, three businessmen were allegedly robbed of more than P375,000.00 in cash and property valued at over P80,000.00," the BPS said.
Further investigations allegedly revealed that the two Zimbabwean suspects were already on the police wanted list in connection with several outstanding criminal cases.
These include alleged robberies, break-ins and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in Gaborone, Mogoditshane and Francistown.
Police also said investigations established that Nembaware had been declared a prohibited immigrant in Botswana in 2007.
The three suspects appeared before the Maun Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 25, facing one count of robbery.
They were remanded in custody pending further investigations and are expected to return to court on September 8.
The BPS said the arrests formed part of its intensified efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks and bring wanted suspects to justice.
Police also commended members of the public for providing information that has assisted investigations.
"The BPS commends members of the public whose timely information continues to play a critical role in assisting Police investigations and enhancing the safety and security of communities across the country," the police said.
The allegations against the three suspects have not yet been tested in court.
