Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart has called for the Isiziba Youth Innovation Hub model to be replicated across the city's youth centres to create more opportunities for young people in entrepreneurship, innovation and climate-resilient food production.
Coltart made the call on Tuesday while commissioning the rehabilitated Isiziba Youth Innovation Hub in Njube suburb, which has been equipped with facilities designed to help young people develop practical skills and build sustainable livelihoods.
The rehabilitation was carried out by the City of Bulawayo in partnership with development partners under the Urban Futures Project, spearheaded by Hivos through its implementing partners.
Coltart commended the partners for establishing a facility that promotes youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and innovation while supporting climate-resilient urban food systems.
Hivos worked with the Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Organisation, Lupane State University, Green Hut, Africa Food Revolution Trust and Unemployed and Vulnerable Foundation Trust on the project.
The initiative is intended to provide young people with opportunities to acquire practical skills, explore business ideas and participate in sustainable food production.
The city council said it valued public-private partnerships as a viable model for strengthening local governance and improving service delivery.
Replicating the Isiziba model across other youth centres could expand access to skills development and enterprise support for young people in different parts of Bulawayo.
