Businessman guns down girlfriend, kills self

A Harare businessman, Irvine Mereki shot dead his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself in Avondale early on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mereki shot his girlfriend, whose name has not yet been established, before turning the gun on himself.
When the news crew arrived at number 44 Oxford Road in Avondale, several vehicles sped away from the scene.
Some of the people who were milling around the place attacked the News crew's cameraman and threatened to destroy the camera saying they were at a private function.
The bodies of the two deceased were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for post mortem.
Police national spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba called for Zimbabweans to desist from domestic violence, saying people should seek counselling in solving their social problems.
She warned the public against attacking journalists on duty, saying the police are going to deal with the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Naison Mereki who was part of the gang that assaulted the cameraman has been arrested.
