MOVEMENT for Democratic change led by Morgan Tsvangirai has fallen on hard times following donor fatigue and has already started retrenching its workers in Bulawayo.
Sources within the party said donors were disappointed with the party's dismal performance in July's harmonized elections.
One of the affected workers is personal assistant to MDC-T's National Chairman, Lovemore Moyo, Artwell Sibanda.
The retrenched workers have been left fuming as they have been given pathetic exit packages of as little as $3 000.
It is said that retrenchment has affected all the party's provinces. Bulawayo Provincial administrative assistant, Mr Sidumiso Mbambo, the provincial security officer, Mr Alexius Moyo, and a driver Mr Dumoluhle Thabethe have reportedly been laid off.
Only three employees are said to have been left at the provincial offices. MDC-T national spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora confirmed that more than 100 workers have been retrenched.
"The party went into an election and during the preparations we had to recruit more people. Naturally we had to downsize after the elections because our workforce had artificially gone high," Mwonzora said.
