A 35-year-old Harare businessman attempted to commit suicide on Monday night after stabbing his wife and employee with a knife following an argument over rentals with his landlord at Mereki Shopping Centre.
Davison Gondo of Hatcliffe, who is believed to have mental ill health, owns Chisa Nyama Butchery at the shopping centre in Warren Park D. Police said on Monday night Gondo had a misunderstanding with his landlord Mr Webster Machokoto for failing to pay his rent and electricity bills.
Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube yesterday confirmed the incident. She said following the misunderstanding, Gondo became violent accusing Mr Machokoto for causing his business' downfall.
"When he became violent Machokoto was not present and Gondo later took a butcher knife and charged towards his employee Graim Mushonga whom he stabbed twice on the back. He also stabbed him once on the head," Asst Insp Dube said.
His wife, Anna Tatenda Chikovanyika (26) tried to stop him from further stabbing Mushonga and was also stabbed on the left thumb.
Mushonga who is a butcherman and Chikovanyika managed to escape, seeking for help.
Gondo is alleged to have slit his throat with the knife in an attempt to kill himself. Police arrived at the scene and arrested him before taking him to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment under police guard.
