A CHIMANIMANI man is lucky to be alive after dodging three bullets from his former employer who assaulted him for demanding his unpaid salary.
However, two of the stray bullets hit two patrons who were enjoying their beer, seriously injuring them.
Manicapost reported that the incident happened last week at Muuyuweburi Business Centre in Zimunda Village under Chief Muusha in Chimanimani. It is alleged that Joshua Chirongwe (32) nearly lost his life after demanding his unpaid dues from his former employer, Beckson Muchini (50) of Nechirinda Village. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri said Chirongwe used to work for Muchini as a barman and he did not receive his salary for three months. "His employer assured him that he would pay him with interest, but when he resigned from employment, Muchini refused to pay him, saying that he had other important things to do. "When Chirongwe approached his former employer for his unpaid salary, he was told that there was no money as he wanted to place more orders for his business. He asked him to come back after four months. "A misunderstanding arose as Chirongwe was refusing to go without his money," said Insp Chishiri. He said Muchini instructed him to leave the beerhall as he was disturbing his customers, but he refused. Some people who were inside drinking beer tried to resolve the issue, but Muchini ordered them to stay away as he was pushing Chirongwe outside. It is alleged that he assaulted him with an empty bottle, but Chirongwe refused to budge although he was bleeding. Insp Chishiri said Chirongwe remained adamant, saying he wanted his dues. "Muchini allegedly took a firearm from his gun cabinet and fired three shots intending to shoot Chirongwe, but he missed him. "He shot other innocent people who were drinking outside the beer hall namely Gay Masumbira (50) of Zimunda Village and also Daniel Mwaharaidze (24) of Chirinda Village. The two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mutambara Mission Hospital," he said. Muchini was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
