A WOMAN approached the Chitungwiza Civil Court on Thursday seeking a protection order from her abusive husband who is in the habit of bashing her if she refuses to have sex with him.
Nosta Tanganyika told Chitungwiza magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa that she was an unhappy woman as her husband of four years, Alexander Mhuka, beat her up all the time.
"I am not happy because of his abusive nature. If I refuse sex with him, he beats me up and sometimes for no apparent reason. He uses his belt, shoes, clenched fists and I sustained head injuries recently when he assaulted me with a bottle," she said.
"He even forces me to sleep with him when I'm having my period and if I refuse he beats me up. Sometimes he hits me on my private parts. There was also another time when he hit me with his belt until I urinated and defecated on myself."
Tanganyika said her husband always forced her to sleep with him after thoroughly thrashing her.
Mhuka conceded that he was ill-treating his wife. But in his defence, Mhuka said he was doing this in retaliation for the abuses his children from his first marriage were suffering at the hands of Tanganyika.
"It is true that I hit her. But it is because she abuses my children. When we married she was aware that I had four children, but she does not want to take care of them," he said.
Magistrate Gofa granted her the protection order and ordered Mhuka to stop abusing his wife in any way.
