CID to acquire investigation gadgets

THE Criminal Investigations Department is set to acquire scientific investigation gadgets as it moves to deal effectively with serious crimes.
Police Commissioner Solomon Mubatapasango last Friday said they have since engaged Government over the matter.
He was addressing officers during the CTD Awards of Excellency in Policing: 2014.
"To the CID members, I must emphasise that as the police command we are also committed to providing you with the necessary resources in your work.
"To this end, we have engaged Government to improve its budget for the acquisition of scientific investigation gadgets, the completion of AFIS (Auto-mated Fingerprints Investigative System) project and member-training and development to meet the department's needs as outlined in 2015 policing expectations,'* Comm Mubatapasango said.
He said the awards ceremony had come at a time when the public was grateful to the departments investiga- ttve prowess that resulted in the arrest of notorious armed robbers and carjackers.
Comm Mubatapasango said detective work included breaking serious cases that had little or no leads.
"The detectives work tirelessly to piece together little pieces of evidence and information until the truth of what transpired is created leading to the arrest of a perpetrator," he said.
He urged detectives to shun corruption."Allow me also to take this opportunity to warn all criminals that the Zimbabwe Republic Police, as the bastion of excellent policing regionally and Internationally. will always ensure that all those that have the insatiable appetite to violate the laws of the land are brought to book regardless of their status and standing in society," said Comm Mubatapasango.
Sixty-five detectives were rewarded for performing their duties well last year.
CID director Senior Assistant Com-missioner Godfrey Munyonga said the recipients were selected from a long list of deserving hard working members.
"These selected few have all satisfied the element of planning, dedication to duty, bravery and innovativeness among other factors" he said.
