The Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo has told scores of first year students to keep away from drugs and above all abstain from sex.
He said students were at the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies if the engaged in casual sex.
The majority of the students are lodging on their own in the sprawling suburbs of Masvingo and Mashava.
According to Masvingo Mirror, Professor Zvobgo urged students to focus on their studies which was the reason they are at the University and not to fool around.
He specifically spoke against the abuse of drugs and premarital sex.
"God made your brains without drugs so why abuse drugs. Your brains were given the capacity to deliberate without the aid of drugs. You came here to study and to study only, don't fool around," he advised.
He also categorically spoke against premarital sex and urged girls to keep away from the temptation of casual sex.
"Abstinence is the greatest prevention. I urge you girls to place a coin in between your legs and don't let that coin fall. If you keep that coin there and it doesn't fall then you are safe," he said amid laughter from the students.
