Prominent Zimbabwean doctor dies in USA

Dr Eliah Munyikwa (48), one of the best academics to have walked through the corridors of Fletcher High School in Gweru has died in the United States where he was now based.

He died at 830am on Wednesday morning (September 9, 2015). Burial arrangements were still to be announced although there were indications that he might be buried at his rural home in Munyikwa, Gutu.

Close sources contacted The Mirror a few minutes after Dr Munyikwa had died.

He is aid to have died of liver cancer.

The Mirror gathered that Dr Munyikwa was currently a partner at Meadow Kidney Care, Hagerstown, Maryland.

Dr Munyikwa attended Fletcher High in Gweru between 1980 and 1985 where he set one academic record after another and made it 20 points in four subjects at A Level.

He proceeded to the UZ Medical School between 1986 and 1990 and was on medical internship at Parirenyatwa Hospital between 1991 and 1992.

From 1995 to 1996, Dr Munyikwa was on postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Royal College of Physicians UK. In 2002 to 2006 he was on a fellowship in Nephrology, Springfield, Massachusetts.

Dr Munyikwa is survived by his wife and two elementary school going kids.
