Notorious armed robber gets life behind bars

A notorious armed robber Mashwell Kurauone (33) who terrorised parts of Masvingo Province and also shot at a Police detective injuring him has been sentenced to life in prison by High Court Judge, Justice Joseph Musakwa.

Kurauone 33 who faced several serious charges including murder and armed robbery appeared at the High Court Circuit in Masvingo last week.

Kurauone who hails from Chikoho Village, Dekeza area under Chief Bota in Zaka moved around with a pistol hidden in his underpants.

He faced one count of attempted murder in which he shot Innocent Mupoperi, a Chiredzi Detective Sergeant twice on the thigh, three counts of armed robbery, plus one count of murder of a Toyota Ipsum driver.

 Kurauone was sentenced last week at a time when he is serving a 33- year jail term for a spate of other armed robbery cases.

Justice Musakwa slapped Kurauone with 30 years for attempted murder and armed robbery.  This makes up a total 63 years in jail.

On top of the 63 year he was also found guilty of shooting Mberi Chibaro, a Toyota Ipsum driver to death.

Justice Musakwa then effectively sentenced him to a life imprisonment with hard labour.
