Local Government minister and Zanu PF National political commisor Saviour Kasukuwere is illegally parcelling out state land to Zanu PF youths, vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
In parliament on Wednesday, MDC-T legislators asked whether it was government policy for Kasukuwere to dish out land on political lines.
Asked Jessie Majome " As the Hon. Minister (Douglas Mombeshora) has confirmed, he is in charge of State land and he can, on occasion, offer, give and deliver land to the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.
" So, my question is on that particular issue about when he hands over a parcel of land to the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing and it is distributed publicly to ZANU-PF youths only.
" I want to know, is that Government policy, because there is information in the public arena that Zanu PF youths are being parceled out land in Shawasha Hills and ZANU-PF officials including even senior officials of ZANU-PF?".
Responded Mnangagwa " Government has no policy to allocate land to political parties" he said.
"Each municipal area has its residential area and it can only be allocated upon application to land developers or to the Government arm which is Udcorp.
"That is Government policy. So, if that was the issue which the Hon. Member was seeking to find out, whether Government policy is that political parties can apply as political parties to acquire land, no, we do not have that".
This week, Zanu PF secretary for youth, Kudzai Chipanga vowed that the youth league would not vote for President Robert Mugabe if they are not given housing stands.
Early this year, Zanu PF pledged to parcel out residential stands to youths countrywide as a way of vote buying.
To date, nothing has been delivered apart from mock ground breaking ceremonies in Bulawayo.
