Mzilikazi district to launch community sports programme

Sports enthusiasts in and around Emakhandeni suburb are in for a treat this Saturday as the Mzilikazi district launches the revival of the Community Sports and Recreational Development Programme at Emakhandeni grounds with 14 sport codes to be participated in.
The government through the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) has been on an overdrive to promote the participation of the community in sport as a way of building a healthy citizenry and creating a larger base to tap talent from.
With the revival of the five Bulawayo districts' Community Sport and Recreation Development Programme which includes Mzilikazi, Imbizo, Reigate, Khami and Bulawayo Central, a lot of sporting activity is expected to be engaged in the city.
The chairperson of the host district Mzilikazi which houses 21 wards spoke on the Community Sport and Recreation Development Programme as playing a pivotal role in creating a healthy morally upright society.
The programme that is expected to be graced by boxing and football legends is a move aimed towards a model community, according to Morris Mukwiti secretary for Mzilikazi Community Sports and Recreation Development Programme.
Sport codes to be taken part in include soccer, netball, volleyball, athletics, boxing, tug of war, darts, tennis, chess, basketball, rugby, wushu, kung fu and korfball which is a new sport code to be launched on the day.
