Patsaka-Nyaminyami CR Environment and Tourism Series
As Kariba gears herself up to host an increased domestic tourism traffic flow, she needs the necessary social amenities to keep this fickle market excited. Yesterday's official opening of the middle-of-the-road Plateau Sports Bar attended by a bumper crowd; is just the tonic the resort town's domestic tourism drive needed.
It was meant to be a small, ceremonial event but being Kariba, the ultimate tourist destination, revellers turned up in large numbers to welcome and support a facility they consider indispensable to their social wellbeing. Even the manager of the joint, Mr Fanwell Mugurameno was taken by surprise as he became the busiest man of the night due to the huge turnout. He admitted that the warm reception exceeded expectations by far which is a sign that the latest product was on demand hence there is need to deliver.
Official speeches by management of the sports bar acknowledged the public support and promised to deliver and play their part in the town's domestic tourism drive. Councillor Simbarashe Manyumwa of Ward 9 and the Kariba Municipality Assistant Housing and Community Services Director Mr Casper Mutumbami graced the event. Councillor Manyumwa was clear in stating that understanding the social needs of the stakeholders should be supreme in every community leader's priorities.
After the burning to the ground of the popular Mrs Kelly run Zendaya usually known as paInformation centre by a wild fire, Kariba lacked an al fresco events venue, crippling the domestic tourism drive by such organizations at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), Kariba Publicity Association (KPA) and Wild Zambezi. The thrust has been to let the locals be encouraged to go out and appreciate their countryside.
Plateau Sports Bar offers a convivial ambience for the sporty. Barbecues over open fires add spice to the joint's repertoire of offerings with happy people completing the cocktail. The August month promises to be the best month for domestic tourism as this asset addition will forever be cherished. The ultimate destination is now packaged for Kariba with the half marathon on the second week of August as well as the now certain Kariba Nyaminyami festival and the Heroes holidays.
