Tsvangirai turning in his grave
15 Feb 2021 at 13:13hrs | Views
THIS year marks four years after the death of the late Prime Minister and founding leader of the MDC Morgan Tsvangirai. But the fourth anniversary of his death comes at a time some of his former lieutenants are bent on destroying his legacy and the democracy he fought for un-til his last breath.
The situation obtaining in the MDC is chaotic.
The MDC which Tsvangirai left Nelson Chamisa in charge of shook after some members who lost at the MDC Alliance Gweru extraordinary congress took advantage of a controversial Supreme Court judgment to tear the party apart.
The MDC Alliance was Tsvangirai's brainchild having realised that to defeat Zanu-PF all genuine opposition parties needed to unite. So the move by those breaking away from the MDC Alliance for personal glory is truly making Tsvangirai turn in his grave.
Political analysts agree that Chamisa is the only undisputed political heavyweight giving Zanu-PF sleepless nights at the moment. And it is a fact that the 2018 presidential results showed that only two candidates competed and the rest were just making up numbers.
In politics, the people are the real court.
Judicial processes don't cast votes and those trying to ruin the MDC Alliance know it and the day of reckoning is coming. In short, those running up and down pretending to be fulfilling the Supreme Court judgment are digging their political graves.
Chamisa is the opposition torchbearer. The volume of political pressure being thrust on him by Zanu-PF using all instruments at its disposal means a lot. We know from history that Zanu-PF doesn't waste its weapons on meaningless opposition or its puppets that is why some opposition political parties are not under any pressure from the ruling party.
Tsvangirai did all he could to mould a strong opposition party before his death and Chamisa is the person he left to execute the plan which he left unfinished. His political legacy lives on and Chamisa is inspiring voters both old and young.
