Hullabaloo over BBC Chamisa story hot air
14 Aug 2023 at 21:13hrs | Views
You don't have to hold a brief for Shingai Nyoka or BBC Africa to see that the hullabaloo over the Nelson Chamisa story is hot air from jittery and desperate quarters who want "everyone" to lie for Chamisa, ahead of the Zim general election set for next week; 23 August.
The claim that the story is rehashed from an earlier version done in 2018 is in fact an acknowledgment that it is well grounded in facts that have not changed. Why change the story when the facts have not changed?
It is rational and professional, not a rehash, for a 2023 story to build on 2018 facts. It's an update not a rehash.
Yes, the bit about Chamisa wearing designer suits and jewelry was off the wall - it most likely was inserted not by Shingai, but in the editing process by an editor with a stereotypical view of young African pastors who bling bling in politics with designer suits and jewelry - but that one sentence was swiftly edited out, which was the right professional thing to do, leaving the viral story intact.
As the story stands now, it is well informed and quite informing!
