'No power struggles in the MDC Renewal Team'

The MDC Renewal Team would like to dismiss the article in today's Daily News, which inaccurately reported that there are strong fissures between the Secretary General Tendai Biti and the Treasurer General Elton Mangoma over the position of the president ahead of its congress and the formation of the United Movement for Democratic Change (UMDC).
For the record, the MDC Renewal Team will in April this year, hold a non-elective congress, which will run on the side-lines or concurrently with its policy conference. No elections for any position will be held at this congress as no post is being contested including that of the president.
In Reunification Agreement of the UMDC, Article 25, there shall be; "On the side-lines or concurrent with the Policy Conference, each of the respective political parties shall have a non-elective take note congress whose sole and exclusive task will be," among other issues to receive reports on the progress made and development in the respective parties, receive reports on reunification and progress made in preparation of the elective UMDC congress.
We all know that on 26 April 2014, that Biti and Mangoma were part of the MDC leadership that met at Mandel Training Centre in Harare and resolved to among other concerns, build a formidable team that will tackle the crises facing the people of Zimbabwe.
As the MDC Renewal Team, we do not believe in the big man politics and our leaders work as a team and all positions are equally important to all.
As a matter of fact, the MDC Renewal Team only last week held its crucial national strategic meeting in Harare, where we resolved to tackle the challenges facing the people of Zimbabwe and to continue with our programme of negotiating with other democrats in Zimbabwe with the idea of forming a grand coalition of progressive forces and create a united front to end the dictatorship of Robert Mugabe and Zanu-PF.
It is therefore unfounded and malicious for The Daily News, as per its tradition, to suggest that there is a tussle in the MDC Renewal Team for the presidency when the space for that contestation is not available. As we have said it before and reiterate, there is need for the media, especially The Daily
News to report accurately at all times and not to be speculative on issues that will misinform its readers.
In the meantime, Hon. Sekai Holland remains the President of the MDC Renewal Team and we are happy as a party that she is in charge and is getting full support and backing from all the party organs.
Giving the people of Zimbabwe renewed hope and a servant leadership!!!
