Zanu-PF regime should timeously pay civil servants salaries

Civil servants in Zimbabwe continue to struggle under the weight of a collapsing economy brought about through decades of Zanu PF misrule,rampant corruption and a generalised derelection of governmental responsibilities. They have not been paid their July 2016 salaries and nobody seems to know when, exactly, the bankrupt Zanu PF regime will be able to accumulate enough financial resources to pay civil servants their salaries on time, every time.

Every indication is pointing to a scenario in which the regime will, very soon, be completely incapable of paying salaries to its employees. Of course, such a state of affairs will inevitably lead to unprecedented social unrest and civil commotion.

The Zanu PF regime literally struggled to pay bonuses for civil servants in 2015 and there are now clear signs of an implosion in the national treasury as salary dates are being shifted each and every succeeding month. The regime is living on borrowed time. It's days are numbered.

In complete and utter defiance of both financial and economic logic, President Robert Mugabe and his faction-ridden and bankrupt regime, remain in denial mode. Somehow,they hope that they will be getting a financial bail out package from the Bretton Woods institutions. One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to appreciate that both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will not continue to advance any loans to a financially deliquent and politically illegitimate regime.

It is also a cause of interesting analysis to note that more than two years after several so-called "''mega deals" were signed between Zimbabwe and China, there is absolutely nothing on the ground to confirm that these "mega deals" are being concretised and operationalised. It still remains doom and gloom as far as the economic situation in Zimbabwe is concerned.China will never, ever bail out a renegade regime that has no respect for property rights and the legal sanctity of business contracts and transactions.

The MDC calls for the immediate resignation of the Robert Mugabe-led Zanu PF regime is the first step towards normalising and stabilising Zimbabwe's political and socio-economic infrastructure and superstructure. We need a fresh start,a brand new beginning. A transitional governmental authority should be promptly and urgently put in place in order to prepare the necessary environment for the holding of free and fair elections that will usher in a legitimate and accountable government. In this scenario,both the SADC and the AU have got a crucial role to play in soft-landing the longstanding Zimbabwean political and socio-economic log jam.

At any rate, any government that routinely fails to timeously pay its civil servants their salaries and wages should proceed to do the honourable thing of immediately stepping down from office. Zimbabwe is at the tipping point. The people are hungry and angry. It will be foolhardy for the Zanu PF regime to continue burying its head in the sand like an ostrich.
