Drill Hall based traffic cop detains school kids up to 8pm

On 30 January 2017, there is a police officer who arrested a vehicle that ferries schoolchildren from western suburbs that include Cowdray Park, Emakhandeni and Entumbane to Mguza Adventist primary school in MacDonald bricks area.

The Drill Hall based traffic junior officer who was over zealous took the keys from the driver and drove the Nissan Vannete registration number ACQ 6308 that was driven by one Gabriel Victor Ndlovu to Drill Hall where it was detained up to 2000 hours.

The junior police officer by the name Fungai Chinamhora contactable on cell number +263 772 967 689 preferred different dubious charges against the driver and solicited for a bribe from the driver to buy his liberty. The driver who is a law-abiding citizen and could not support corruption within the government organs or outside refused to bow down to the demands leading to the detention of the vehicle with a load of primary school children.

The officer did this with the intention of putting a bad name on the driver so that parents would withdraw their kids from the driver. Parents who called the driver were told by the overzealous Chinamhora that the vehicle they allow their children to use was detained at Drill Hall and only to be released when the driver pays for his bad attitude.

Ironically, the driver understands little of Shona and most of the demands the officer posed where not understood by Ndlovu. The heartless officer did not care about the welfare of the tired, hungry, stressed and lonely children who were delayed and overdetained at the police camp.

The action was cruel to children and parents are reportedly fuming against Chinamhora and are seeking redress on this matter, calling the police command to look into such actions of ruthless, overzealous and corrupt officers among their rank and file. Parents who have children who arrived as late as 2130 hours vowed to take the matter up with the police command and if nothing happens to the police officer mentioned in abuse of the rights of children, a lawsuit will ensue.

Mguza Adventist Primary School enrolment is largely from western areas and as such, parents pay individuals who volunteered to ferry the children to the school. The crackdown by the police on these vehicles will be a big blow to the school as they often waylay them at MacDonald turnoff (Gwanda Road) and solicit for $ 10 bribe from every commuter omnibus ferrying schoolchildren.
