Mamelodi Sundowns owner and multibillionaire Patrice Motsepe has promised his players that if they win CAF Championship League he will give them R1m each.
The Brazilians won the first leg of the final against Zamalek last week and they are the favourite to lift the trophy. It is unlikely that Zamalek will score more than 3 goal when the teams meet for the second leg tomorrow.
"The president met with the boys and told them they will be a million richer if they win the cup. When he bought Sundowns his main dream was to win the continental league. His dream is about to be realised and he's very excited. That is why he wants to thank the boys financially," said a Mamelodi Sundowns official who refused to be named.
On Monday Mamelodi Sundowns announced that Patrice Motsepe has paid for 140 fans to fly to Egypt to watch the second leg of the final. According to sources in the Mamelodi Sundowns house, Motsepe has made R5m available to help fans who want to witness the historic moment.
If Mamelodi Sundowns win, they will be the second team in South Africa to do so. Orlando Pirates won the star in 1995.
