A bold vision aimed at transforming Nkayi into a globally recognised cultural and investment destination has been outlined in an open letter addressed to His Royal Highness Chief Dakamela by prominent tourism advocate, comedian and media personality Carl Joshua Ncube.

In the letter, Ncube commended Chief Mbusi Dakamela for his leadership and the success of the annual Dakamela Awards, describing the initiative as a powerful platform that celebrates community excellence and preserves cultural heritage.

Ncube, who has attended the awards in previous years, said the experience left a lasting impression and deepened his appreciation for rural development and heritage‑based tourism.

The proposal outlines a 10‑point strategic plan designed to attract investors, empower local communities and position Nkayi as a hub for sustainable tourism and economic growth.

Among the key proposals is the establishment of a “Throne Room Media Hub”, a centralised platform intended to manage and amplify the Dakamela narrative through structured communication, including weekly updates from the Chief to local communities and the diaspora.

Ncube also proposed the development of a rural bed‑and‑breakfast (BnB) network, encouraging villagers to create accommodation facilities that meet a standardised “7‑point” quality framework. The initiative aims to deliver a consistent, world‑class visitor experience rooted in traditional settings while generating household‑level income.

To enhance transparency and attract external partners, the proposal includes the creation of a digital investment portal where potential investors can access opportunities within the community. This would be supported by a broader “Digital Kingdom” strategy, featuring a dedicated website and synchronised social media platforms to expand Nkayi’s global reach.

The plan also highlights the role of community ambassadors — individuals already promoting Nkayi informally — who would be formally recognised and equipped to represent the region on larger platforms.

In addition, Ncube suggested leveraging sport as a tourism driver through the development of local facilities and the introduction of an annual exhibition match featuring a “Chief’s Royal 11” against legends from Highlanders FC, one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent football clubs.

The Dakamela Awards themselves are earmarked for expansion, with proposals to standardise and elevate the accolade into a globally recognised symbol of excellence.

Ncube reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the vision, saying that with coordinated effort and strategic planning, Dakamela could evolve from a rural community into a destination of international significance.

The proposals come at a time when rural tourism and community‑driven development are increasingly recognised as key drivers of inclusive economic growth in Zimbabwe.
