In a bid to empower and equip composers and musicians in Zimbabwe with copyright laws and artists' rights , the  Zimbabwe Music Rights Association, (ZIMURA) is going conduct a series of workshops on intellectual property rights and artists' rights. The workshops will be conducted in all the country's ten provinces.

Speaking to state media (ZBC News), ZIMURA Chairperson Albert Nyathi said the workshops which will be conducted in all the country's ten provinces were necessitated by the realisation that the sector is growing and concerns raised by artists at the annual general meeting held in February which showed that musicians are not aware of their rights and laws governing their operations.

Nyathi said: "The sector is a business like any other and needs to be run professionally.

"The workshops will also address reproductive health issues as the artists are among the vulnerable due to their working environment."

Several musicians have died paupers and analysts have attributed that to the lack of relevant skills to run their enterprises.

Of late, piracy has affected musicians despite the country having copyright laws that seek to protect the work of artists.
