SA police seize R1 million worth of counterfeit goods

SA police have seized counterfeit CDs, DVDs, scanners, computers, printers and fireworks with an estimated value of over R1 million.
The aim of the operation was to reduce piracy which affected the income of artists, Maj-Gen Dibero Molatjana, deputy provincial commissioner for priority investigations, said on Friday.
The operation also aimed to reduce tax evasion by counterfeiters and seize fireworks sold from street dealers and unaccredited shops.
Polokwane, Thohoyandou, Musina, Mokopane and Tzaneen were the areas targeted in the week-long initiative, which involved the Hawks, crime intelligence, home affairs and the SA Federation Against Copyright Theft.
Molatjana said operations would continue throughout the festive season and next year.
