Pan‑African Parliament mourns death of Angolan delegate Manuel Domingos Augusto

The President of the Pan‑African Parliament, Fateh Boutbig, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Manuel Domingos Augusto, Head of the Angola Delegation to the continental legislature.
In an official condolence message, Boutbig described Augusto as a distinguished statesman, seasoned diplomat and committed Pan‑Africanist whose contribution to African unity and parliamentary diplomacy earned admiration across the continent.
“It is with profound sorrow and deep sadness that I have received the sombre news of the untimely passing of Manuel Domingos Augusto,” Boutbig said.
On behalf of the Bureau, parliamentarians and the entire Pan‑African Parliament family, Boutbig extended condolences to the Government and people of Angola, the National Assembly of Angola, the Angolan delegation to the Pan‑African Parliament and Augusto’s family, friends and colleagues.
He paid tribute to Augusto’s role in strengthening the Pan‑African Parliament and advancing the African Union agenda, saying his work and leadership would remain an enduring legacy.
“Manuel Domingos Augusto was a distinguished statesman, an accomplished diplomat and a committed Pan‑Africanist whose dedication to the ideals of African unity, peace and development earned him the admiration and respect of his peers across the continent,” he said.
Boutbig described the late Angolan legislator as “a fountain of wisdom and a calming presence” within the Pan‑African Parliament, particularly during difficult moments faced by the institution.
He said Augusto worked tirelessly to promote both Angola’s interests and the broader African cause, while maintaining humility despite his many accomplishments.
“To the Pan‑African Parliament, Augusto has gone too soon. We have lost a dedicated servant of Africa, and the continent has lost one of its finest sons,” Boutbig said.
He added that although Augusto’s death leaves a significant void, his vision, leadership and commitment to the African cause should continue to inspire future generations.
The Pan‑African Parliament leadership also expressed solidarity with Angola during the mourning period and prayed for strength and comfort for Augusto’s loved ones.
“May his dear departed soul rest in eternal peace,” Boutbig said.
