SA residents arm themselves with buckets of faeces

Fed-up residents from Winnie Mandela informal settlement in Tembisa, South Africa armed themselves with buckets of stinking faeces, intending to throw them over three councillors to show them what it's like to live in shacks without toilets.
"We live in Gauteng but it's as if we're in the deep rural areas," said angry community leader Edward Maditsi.
"We still use pit toilets yet we vote at every election. We think if we throw this kak at them, they will speed up things and understand what it's like to be in our shoes."
In February, community leaders wrote to the Ekurhuleni Municipality asking them to address the problems in their area and were told the executive committee of Ekurhuleni was still going to meet but nothing happened.
Yesterday residents gathered at the local clinic and said they wouldn't leave until Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele came to address them.
But he sent his committee to address the residents - and they were not happy about it.
Ekurhuleni mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini told Daily Sun that all the issues raised by the community will be investigated and if the issues are found to be legitimate, solutions will be found.
