Cash In Transit guards arrested for Hillbrow shooting

Three cash in transit guards employed by SBV were arrested for allegedly shooting dead a person after a bakkie believed to be belonging to Zimbabwean crashed into their van in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, Gauteng police have confirmed.
According to eye witnesses at the scene on Tuesday, a black Toyota Bakkie was parked slightly encroaching into the road when the CIT Guards demanded the occupants to move the vehicle. On attempting to move the bakkie to open space for the CIT van, a minor accident happened and the guards started firing at the occupants in the bakkie who fled from the gun fire resulting in the death of a by stander believed to be Nigerian.
Angered by the negligent shooting members of the public are reported to have started pelting the armed security guards with various missiles ranging from plastic bottles to stones. The guards reacted by further firing live ammunition at the crowd resulting in the injury of two more innocent members of the public.
Police details from the SAPS and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department rushed in to quickly appease the situation got out of hand as the crowd was teaming up to attack the guards.
Speaking in interview, Lt-Col Khensani Magoai of the South African Police Services confirmed that one person was indeed killed in the incident and that two people were injured in the skirmish and are recovering in hospital. Magoai could not immediately confirm the identity nor nationality of the deceased and injured.
However, a source who spoke to Bulawayo 24 claimed that one of the injured was a Zimbabwean man he knows from Bulawayo. The guards are expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
