MDC Youth Assembly congratulates ANC Youth League

The MDC Youth Assembly congratulates the ANC Youth League on the occasion of its 70th Anniversary.
Since the ANCYL was formed on this day in 1944 it has given the continent classic examples of how young people can operate semi-autonomously from a broad movement and achieve great things generation after generation.
That the ANCYL is the movement that moulded Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Thabo Mbeki, Peter Mokaba, Solomon Mahlangu, Malusi Gigaba, Charlotte Maxeke and Fikile Mbalula amongst others into great personalities they are, requires perpetual applause.
It was the founders of the ANCYL that became great commanders of uMkhonto WeSizwe, the military wing of the ANC which collaborated with the Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) in the execution of the Chinhoyi Battle and other military operations that led to the decolonisation of Zimbabwe. It is our hope that as the ANCYL enjoys its 70th Birthday it can reflect on the objectives of the MK-ZIPRA co-operation and perhaps evaluate whether or not post 1980 life in Zimbabwe and post 1994 life in South Africa is in line with that co-operation. The Assembly further wishes ANCYL a successful Congress set for October 2014.
