Former President Sir Ketumile Masire recently lost 89 zebras to the heat wave which hit most parts of the country.
The zebras were part of the more than 300 animals kept at his Sekoma farm.
The Voice reported that seemingly hurt former statesman who has over 300 zebras at his farm said on top of the scorching over 43 degree celsius heat wave that claimed his animals, the situation was worsened by a pipe burst that supplies his farm with water.
Masire also revealed that before the heat wave claimed his zebras, he had made efforts to sell some of them to the Department of Wildlife with no success.
He said despite the game being in his farm, they are still treated as wild animals hence he cannot do anything about them without consulting the Department of Wildlife.
"Despite this tragedy I still maintain that the future of wildlife in Botswana is game farming. The human population is increasing while the natural resources have remained stagnant. We must encourage dependability, people must depend on animals and vice versa," he said.
