Undergraduate Bursaries Available for Asylum Seekers, Dependents & People with DLR - Apply Now!

STAR is delighted to announce a fantastic package of support from our lovely friends at Article 26 which will enable asylum seekers, dependents and people with DLR to study for a degree without having to pay fees! There are a limited number of these bursaries and to apply you must secure a place a university, so make sure you apply to UCAS before January 15th!

If your UCAS application is successful you will then be able to apply to Article 26 for one of their bursaries. Remember STARs â€" we are campaigning for Equal Access to university for asylum seekers and you can find out why these bursaries are needed here. If you know anyone who would benefit from this support tell them now!! All the details are below.

What's on offer?

Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive support package to study on an undergraduate degree programme of your choice at one of the following universities:

· Canterbury Christ Church University
· Chester University
· Cumbria University
· Manchester University
· Salford University
· St Marys University College, Twickenham
· Winchester University

The support package will include the following:

· A tuition fee bursary to cover the full cost of your fees. Until your application for asylum in the UK is resolved and you can access student finance.

· A Personal Support Plan to enable you to identify and overcome barriers to achievement on your degree programme.

· Membership of the Article 26 student network.

· Further training & mentoring provided by the Helena Kennedy Foundation â€" which has 13 years' experience of supporting students.

· A small grant, if needed, to help with travel and study costs.

Eligibility
In order to apply, you must be an asylum seeker, the partner or dependent of an asylum-seeker, or someone who has sought asylum in the UK and has been granted temporary status, e.g. DLR (discretionary leave to remain) on the basis of an asylum claim.

You also need to meet all of the following requirements:

· You must NOT be entitled to mainstream funding e.g student finance or a local authority grant
· You must meet the entry requirements for the university, including their English language criteria
· You must be attending a school, college or community group who can provide you with a reference for Article 26
· You must be able to provide evidence of your immigration status in the UK and be prepared to undergo an assessment of your personal circumstances and suitability to undertake a degree programme

· You must be able demonstrate how you will be accommodated whilst you are a student. Article 26 does NOT fund accommodation or living costs

Next steps
If you are interested and meet all of the above criteria, make sure you get your UCASapplication in now, before January 15th!

Once you have submitted a UCAS application form and received a conditional or unconditional offer at a participating university you can submit your Article 26 application. The deadline for applications to the Article 26 programme is 30th March 2012.

Remember, sadly applying in itself doesn't guarantee you a place!

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an interview at the university at which they wish to study.
