Below we publish the message as published by the Sunday Mail:
National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, would like to thank most sincerely His Excellency, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, for issuing a presidential statement to all blood donors on the eve of World Blood Donor Day on Wednesday June 13 2012.
We thank you for the message of appreciation and support of our "true heroes/heroines" â€" the blood donors - for the immense contribution they give in saving lives.
This is the first time it has happened in the history of Zimbabwe and for this we thank His Excellency, who took time out of his busy schedule to honour all blood donors in Zimbabwe.
The Government is a signatory to World Health Assembly resolution 28:72 which urges all member states to promote the development of national blood transfusion services based on voluntary non-remunerated blood donations.
Your Excellency, your message has not only impacted on the blood donors themselves but has also made other healthy citizens who were reluctant to donate blood to visit our centres throughout the country to donate blood.
May the Lord's blessings keep you in good health and as NBSZ we will continue to learn from your commitment, dedication and hard work that you continue putting in for the blessed nation of Zimbabwe.
