225,820 Male Condoms Distributed in Bulawayo Over Two Months

BULAWAYO - The Bulawayo City Council has revealed that a total of 225,820 male condoms were distributed across the city in September and October, compared to 13,548 female condoms during the same period.
The figures were contained in the Health Promotion Unit’s October 2025 report, presented by the Director of Health Services, Edwin Mzingwane, on 6 November.
According to the report, 131,820 male condoms were distributed in September and 94,000 in October. Female condom distribution stood at 6,543 in September and 7,005 in October.
The report also highlighted extensive health education efforts, with 2,948 sessions held in September and 2,919 in October. Campaigns reached 71,047 people in September and 60,844 in October.
Social and Behaviour Change Communication activities utilised diverse channels, including eight radio infomercials broadcast on Skyz Metro (3) and Khulumani FM (5). Key messages focused on the Measles Rubella Campaign, the importance of Vitamin A supplementation, the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Mental Health.
Community announcements were also made on the Measles Rubella Campaign and suspected Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), with information materials developed for service providers and residents.
The report noted that Bulawayo Metropolitan Province participated in the nationwide Measles/Rubella (MR) follow-up campaign, integrated with vaccination of due and overdue routine immunisation doses and Vitamin A supplementation.
The campaign, conducted from 6-10 October 2025, targeted children aged 9-59 months for measles rubella and 6-59 months for Vitamin A, aiming to close immunity gaps and prevent outbreaks.
