Makokoba Health Care Initiative Trust (MHCI) Saturday officially handed over a motor powered wheelchair to the Nkomo Family in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The handover ceremony held at the Hillbrow Recreation Centre, was attended by Nkomo family, friends, relatives, well-wishers, guest artist and poet Nxayezwe Wayne.
The donation was for one of the two Nkomo bothers Ronald and Lindani who survived a fatal accident in 2009, the accident claimed their father's life, leaving them both crippled back.
The whole event was very emotional, not just for the mother of the two boys who was in tears the whole time, but for everyone in attendance. Guest speaker Mrs Maria Yende reiterated the need for communities to come together and help each other and not only wait for government aid.
These sentiments were echoed by Pastor Mahluli Moyo of Christ Embassy, who is also a founder member of MHCI.
Pastor Moyo gave a touching speech about how people should always look up to God for everything and also emphasized the duty of each and everyone of us in combating poverty, helping the less priviledged and becoming better citizens.
During the unveiling of the wheelchair, tears of joy were shed. Lindani was all smiles as he glaringly looked with pride at his new wheelchair. One could tell that he could not wait to be on it and ride around. 'Blessed is the hand that giveth', as the poet Nxayezwe put it in his soft but poetic words. He mesmerised everyone at the function by his flare of words in poetry and people asked for more. Lindani loved his new set of wheels and was very fast in learning how to operate it as he was cruising around in minutes.
The most touching moment was when the mother could not stop crying and when she reached out to hug Lindani he said, "Mama ungakhali", ( mom please don't cry).
MHCI South Africa thanked everyone who contributed toward the donation.
