Floyd Mayweather Jr is facing new misdemeanour harassment charges accusing him of threatening two homeowner association security guards outside his Las Vegas home.

The charges filed on Thursday stem from an October dispute with guards in the gated community where Mayweather lives.

Mayweather already faces a September trial on a misdemeanour battery charge stemming from allegations that he poked a 21-year-old guard in the face during a separate argument over parking tickets in November.

The new charges allege Mayweather told two guards his "homeboys" had guns and would "take care" of them during an October argument; again about parking tickets.

Mayweather is also facing unrelated felony charges in a domestic argument with his ex-girlfriend and two of their children last year.

The former champion faces up to 34 years in prison if convicted on all charges, which include felony counts of grand larceny, coercion and robbery stemming from an dispute last September with his former girlfriend, Josie Harris.

Mayweather, 33, is accused of striking and threatening her, stealing her mobile telephone and threatening two children he had with her.

Boxing fans have been hoping Mayweather, who has a professional record of 41-0, with 25 knockouts, would fight Filipino star Manny Pacquiao but Mayweather's legal woes have put such talk on hold.

Last Sunday marked a full year since Mayweather last climbed into the ring, beating Shane Mosley on points. He has fought only twice since stopping Britain's Ricky Hatton in December 2007.
