Zanu PF Bulawayo Province chairman Dennis Ndlovu has disclosed that the ruling party has suddenly realised that unemployment levels in the city are now alarming.
Ndlovu told state media that residents are struggling as the city continues to reel under company closures.
"We have realised that in Bulawayo there are no jobs, factories were closed.
"The people of Bulawayo don't have jobs, they are not working, they don't have food, and they are struggling" he is quoted saying without giving figures.
"Take for instance they're struggling to get water" Ndlovu added.
President Robert Mugabe once described Bulawayo once a thriving industrial hub in the country as an industrial scrapyard.
At its peak, the city accounted for 75 percent of all the country's manufacturing activities.
According to the final Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStats) report on the 2012 national census, a staggering 27 % of the city population was unemployed.
