The Minister of State for Masvingo Shuvai Mahofa has accused three Zanu PF MPs for Chiredzi including Retired Brigadier Gwanetsa, Robert Mukwena and Denford Masiya of diverting donated rice which was intended for the poor.
The accusations come as factionalism in the ruling Zanu PF continue to escalate.
Mahofa said this at a recent Zanu PF inter-district meeting in Chiredzi and she threatened to report the matter to Police if the said diverted rice was not returned.
Brigadier Gwanetsa dismissed the allegations as hogwash and said all rice has been delivered except for wards which are not accessible because of the floods. He said that rice which is still to be distributed is under 24-hour guard.
She said that she received reports that some wards in Chiredzi North, East and South constituencies have not received their consignment of rice.
"After hearing that you had not received rice in your wards, it is now clear that only Darlington Chiwa of Chiredzi West managed to distribute the rice in his constituency but the other three diverted it. I told you that provincial chairpersons were supposed to accompany rice collection teams, look what is now happening".
"We are giving them time to address the issue or else we will call the Police to investigate the matter as theft. Many wards had not received their portions of rice which people should have benefitted the disadvantaged way back" said Mahofa.
Denford Masiya for Chiredzi East said he is not able to hire a boat to ferry the rice across Runde River since the river has been flooded since December 2016.
