Renowned Zimbabwean singer Admire Sanyanga Sibanda, popularly known as Chief Hwenje, is on the path to recovery after undergoing a successful life-saving surgery in India. The 37-year-old artist was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic and immune systems.

Lymphoma arises when lymphocytes - specialized white blood cells - undergo abnormal growth and uncontrolled multiplication. Chief Hwenje's condition had advanced to a stage where surgical intervention was deemed more effective than chemotherapy by medical experts.
Government Steps In

Initially planning to seek treatment in South Africa, Chief Hwenje's plans shifted after the Zimbabwean Government intervened, facilitating his travel to India. This move ensured he received specialized care in the Asian country, where the surgery was performed.

"My surgery was successful, and I am recovering well here in India. I am scheduled to return home later this week," the singer shared in an interview.

"I am incredibly grateful for the extraordinary support I have received from the Government. They have made this journey possible, and my hope for a pain-free future has been renewed."
A Challenging Journey

Before his diagnosis became public, Chief Hwenje endured months of debilitating pain and frequent health setbacks. Despite his condition, he continued performing, often relying on medication to manage his symptoms.

"The past few months have been incredibly tough, filled with frequent attacks and debilitating pain that often confined me to bed," he revealed. "I had to put on a brave face and perform, but the pain sometimes forced me to leave the stage prematurely."

The singer expressed relief now that the worst is behind him and looks forward to returning to the stage with renewed energy and passion.
Focus on Recovery and Music

After his return to Zimbabwe, Chief Hwenje plans to recuperate at his rural home in Shanyura village, Mapanzure, Zvishavane. During his recovery, he aims to focus on completing his upcoming album, Chiedza chaSamere, and several music videos.

Originally scheduled for release in December, the eight-track Afro-traditional album was postponed due to his health challenges. The album reflects his personal struggles and resilience, with songs that delve deeply into his life experiences and music career.
A Respected Artiste

Chief Hwenje is a celebrated figure in Zimbabwean music, known for his collaborations with both secular and gospel artists, including Baba Harare (King David) and Pah Chihera. Beyond performing, he has also penned songs for other musicians, further solidifying his reputation in the industry.

As he continues to recover, fans and fellow artists eagerly await his return to the stage and the release of his much-anticipated album, which promises to be a heartfelt reflection of his journey.
