Transport operators, particularly haulage truck drivers, have been restricted from using the Harare-Chirundu Highway between Chinhoyi and Harare to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the ongoing Zanu PF annual conference.

The restriction took effect on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and also applies to trucks travelling from Harare to Chinhoyi.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said drivers had been urged to use alternative routes to avoid disrupting traffic during the conference, which is being held at Chinhoyi University of Technology.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police Mashonaland West Province advises those in the transport industry, particularly haulage trucks, that they are restricted to use the Harare-Chirundu Road from Chinhoyi to Harare starting today, Tuesday October 13, 2026," Nyathi said.

He said drivers should use the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road, with those travelling to Harare proceeding via the Robert Mugabe Highway, which links with the Harare-Bulawayo Road at Norton.

The same arrangements apply to haulage trucks travelling from Harare to Chinhoyi.

Nyathi appealed to drivers to cooperate with the police and comply with all road rules and regulations during the period of the restriction.

The measures are intended to ease traffic congestion and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles as delegates attend the ruling party's annual conference in Chinhoyi.
