A woman from Sakubva in MUtare got enraged by rumours that were being spread by her landlady, and allegedly poured hot stew on her.
Sarah Tonhei (23) pleaded guilty to assault charges, but also told the court that her intention was to assault Charity Chiminya (23) with the pot not knowing that there was stew inside.
Presiding over the matter was Mutare senior magistrate, Sekai Chiundura, as Fletcher Karombe represented the State.
"Upon confrontation on the gossip she had heard, Tonhei slapped Chiminya once on the cheek and went ahead to take a pot that was on the fire and poured the contents on Chiminya.
However, Tonhei insisted that her intention was not to pour the stew on her landlady, but to strike her with the pot.
"Your Worship, I did not know that there was stew in the pot. Besides that the stew was not even as hot as she claims," she explained.
Chiminya sustained no visible injuries and was not medically examined.
Tonhei was remanded in custody awaiting sentence.
