ZANU PF members were allocated a kilogram of brown rice per household in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central province on Wednesday the 7th of December.
Bulawayo24.com witnessed seven bags of rice being shared amongst hundreds of Mvurwi residence who desperately accepted a kilogram each at Rusununguko Township (popularly known as Forit).
ZANU PF officials Gift Chikari and Bayayi Chiwapura were spearheading the event.
Addressing the gathering Chikari and Chiwapura chanted ZANU PF slogans and denounced Mujuru before telling the crowd that President Mugabe has remembered his people with rice and more food aid was on its way in the name of ZANU PF and that the nonagenarian would not let his people starve.
"Pamberi naVaMugabe Pasi naMai Mujuru" thundered Chikari.
Many people who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity expressed their dismay at the quantity and quality of rice describing it as a mockery. A handful of people walked away empty handed as the seven bags were not enough to cater for the sizable crowd.
The politicisation of food aid has become the norm in Mashonaland Central, several incidents have been documented and many people perceived to be opposition supporters have been sidelined from receiving food handouts. Opposition parties especially People First are seemingly making inroads in Mashonaland Central province once a ZANU PF bedrock of support hence Joice Mujuru has become the subject of verbal attacks at ZANU PF gatherings in the province.
Vote buying has begun in earnest ahead of the much anticipated 2018 general election with ZimPF giving away inputs to build grass roots support while ZANU PF is also politicising food aid distribution.
