A 32 year-old Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Sergeant is in police custody facing unlawful entry charges after trying to steal strong room keys from Rusape (ZRP) District clerk's house on Tuesday.
Sources close to investigations allege sergeant Brighton Katsande broke into the house of Assistant Inspector Tendai Mahere (48) who is a district clerk at Rusape District headquarters and stays in the camp.
"Katsande was found hiding in Mahere's bedroom around 4am with his uniform but without shoes, the clerk who is a lady was shocked and grabbed the accused by the neck before shouting for help.
Mahere's neighbour, Inspector Muchena, came to her rescue and called some officers from the charge office to come and take the accused person.
When Katsande was questioned he said he had brought keys that he had stolen from Mahere's house and it was further noticed that there were some striation marks on the door of the District Clerk's office and some fragments which were on the base of the door, an indication that someone tried to open the door using a metal object," said the source.
Cases of cops breaking the law are mushrooming in the country despite the dismissal of many the trend keeps going on daily.
