Journalists at the Alpha Media Holdings are in trouble over a story in which the paper reported that President Robert Mugabe was in a fresh health scare as he left the country to Singapore for medical check.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights communications officer Kumbirai Mafunda posted on Facebook that the organization has deployed  a lawyer Obey Shava to represent the NewsDay staffers who have been summoned to the police over the story.

"ZLHR lawyer Obey Shava has been deployed to offer emergency legal services to NewsDay journalists Richard Chidza (Chidza Sachidza) and Wisdom Mdzungairi who is the newspaper's Editor and Sifikile Thabete represeenting Alpha Media Holdingx, publishers of the newspaper," said Mafunda.

"Chidza, Mudzungairi and Thabete have now been formally charged with undermining or insulting the President in contravention of Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act."

He said Zimbabwe Republic Police officers claim that the journalists insulted President Mugabe after they published an article titled "Mugabe in fresh health scare" on Thursday 02 March 2017 where they alleged that Mugabe is afflicted by prostate cancer.
