MDC-T Secretary for Finance and Economic Affairs Tapiwa Mashakada has chronicled the events in how Zanu PF has run down the country since year 1980.

"To make the story short,  i will not bother you with the long narratives of Zimbabwe's transition from the Jewel of Africa to a failed state. Zanu PF failures are legendary," he said.

"For purposes of effective communication I shall periodize the key landmarks of Zanu (PF) failures starting from independence in 1980:

1. 1980-1990

-  gukurahundi
-  price controls
- corruption
- violence
- economic mismanagement

2. 1990- 2000

- Esap
- company closures and job losses
- human rights abuses
- violence
- economic mismanagement

2000-2010

- political violence
- political killings
- economic meltdown
- record hyperinflation
- deindustrialization
- food deficit
- decimation of agriculture and chaotic land reform
- militarization and securitization of the state and state institutions
- decimation of human rights
- graduation into failed state
- record national debt and gvt deficit
- wiping out of reserves
-international isolation
- violence
- economic mismanagement
- corruption
- bad governance
- humanitarian crisis( hunger disease, collapse of social services)
- emmigration

2013-2018

- deflation
Human rights abuses
-record corruption
- stagnant growth
- unemployment
- poverty
- completion of deindustrialization
- state capture
- cash shortages and bond notes
Plunder of state resources and externalization
- decimation of judiciary independence
- oiling of rigging machinery
- phoney electoral reforms
- failure to pay civil servants and government shutdown
- No growth
- violence
- economic mismanagement
- bad governance
- corruption."

Mashakada said the above is a helicopter view and the errors of Zanu PF are incalculable.

"There is a common thread running from 1980. Corruption, violence, bad governance, human rights abuses, electoral fraud and economic mismanagement are the 5 most serious crimes perpetrated by Zanu PF since 1980.  We therefore want a new government in 2018 which is a complete break from the past. A change of government is therefore non-negotiable in 2018. Zimbabwe must get back to business, to production, to growth, to jobs and to investment. This new dispensation is only possible under a new MDC-T govt (with its coalition partners)," he said.

He challenged the electorate to vote for Morgan Tsvangirai for President and  MDC-T. in 2018.
