Speaker of the house of assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda has rapped the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZHRA)and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for not treating parliament business seriously.
He also took a swipe at the media for adopting cheque-book reporting.
Officiating at a two day stakeholder's dialogue conference on the election resource centre petition to parliament on the electoral act, Advocate Mudenda was incensed by the fact that at first the ZHRA was represented by an officer while ZEC had only one commissioner present despite the fact that issues under discussion were directly under their portfolio.
A top ZHRA commissioner eventually arrived while another ZEC commissioner also showed up as proceedings unfolded.
Advocate Mudenda also took a swipe at weekly publication, the Zimbabwe Independent over its Friday article titled, "Moyo shreds Mudenda report" which he said was largely unbalanced as it quoted Higher and Tertiary Education Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo without giving the speaker a chance to respond.
As a response ZEC commissioner, Ms Sibongile Ndlovu indicated that the invite was not clear on the number of delegates who were supposed to attend and said she will take the issue to her superior while ZHRA deputy chairperson, Dr Ellen Sithole said there were logistical challenges in her organisation's travelling arrangements.
The Zimbabwe Independent editor, Dumisani Muleya's mobile number was not reachable to explain on the accusation while her deputy Faith Zaba promised to call back with a response but had not done by the time of going on air.
