A woman was jailed 4 years by Mt Darwin resident magistrate for kidnapping a newborn baby in Mashonaland Central.
It emerged in court that on 21 July, Tendai Sande, (30), had a misunderstanding with her husband following her failure to conceive over the years.
Sande hatched a plan to kidnap a baby and tracked Maidei Muiti (34) and her husband Luckson Kurimiramupeta (40) from St Albert's mission where they had gone for a three day check up with their infant.
Muiti left the baby in her bedroom hut while her husband was away.
The accused unlawfully entered the hut, took the infant and fled.
When Sande went back to her village in Chihwata under chief Nembire, people were stunned to see her with a baby because they had not seen her pregnancy.
Sande's sister smelled a rat and approached apostolic prophets who told her that the child was stolen. She went on to file a police report at Dotito police base.
