Former Herald editor and columnist for The Financial Gazette, Bornwell Chakaodza has died.

Chakaodza, who is also a former Director of Information died on Wednesday morning at St Annes Hospital after a long battle with cancer that saw him receive chemotherapy treatment from South Africa.

His death comes barely a few weeks after he was in talks with the Media Institute of Southern Africa Zimbabwe to publish his memoirs.

Chakaodza was also a board member of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe and a revered journalism trainer.

More details on his funeral arrangements are expected later on but mourners are gathered at his Sunridge home in Harare.

In what ranks as a bad month for journalism in Zimbabwe, his death follows that of Freedom Moyo, a senior manager at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation who died two weeks after a horrific accident and Makuwerere Bwititi who died on Sunday after kidney failure. Bwititi had been working in Namibia.

Bwititi is also a former editor at various Zimpapers newspapers in Mutare, Bulawayo and Harare. Zimpapers owns among others the Manica Post, Chronicle and the Herald newspaper.
